General Information
In
Manitoba, industry must pay for 80% of the net system cost. The scheme that
represents industry in this province is Multi-Material
Stewardship Manitoba (MMSM). The Manitoba Government has also set in the
Regulation Guideline a 75% recycling rate target for used beverage containers.
In response to this, the beverage industry has formed a dedicated voluntary
scheme – the Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA) – that
is focused on collecting and recycling used beverage containers that are
consumed away-from-home (i.e. on-the-go), in places such as parks, transit
stops, arenas, etc. It is also responsible for funding the at home collection
of used beverage containers and does this by using a portion of the funds it
collects from beverage producers to cover the cost of used beverage container
collection in the residential stream.
