General Information

Founded by private initiative in November 1996, Sociedade Ponto Verde, S.A. (SPV) became entitled to set up and run the Integrated Recovery System on behalf of industry and trade retailers.

Since September 1999, SPV is licensed to run the so-called VERDORECA - a specific recovery system designed for the HORECA sector. And since October 2000 Sociedade Ponto Verde is also authorized to manage industrial and commercial packaging and packaging waste.

The Portuguese Green Dot System is based on the principle of shared environmental responsibility, and aims at promoting the recovery and recycling of packaging waste.

SPV represents all types of activities involved in the so-called packaging chain and covers presently six specific packaging materials: paper/cardboard, glass, plastic, steel, aluminium and wood.
