The Waste Management (Packaging and Packaging Waste) Regulations as published by Legal Notice 277 of 2006 implements the PRP for packaging waste, bringing into effect the provisions of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (94/62/EC, as amended by Directive 2004/12/EC and by Directive 2005/20/EC). The Waste Management (Packaging & Packaging Waste) Regulations provide additional measures, procedures and guidance to those in the Waste Regulations, 2011 which seek to address the environmental impact of packaging disposal, aiming as a first priority, at preventing the production of packaging waste and as additional fundamental principles, at reusing packaging, at recycling and other forms of recovering waste and, hence, at reducing the final disposal of such waste.http://www.justiceservices.gov.mt/DownloadDocument.aspx?app=lom&itemid=11549&l=1

Established in 2004, GreenPak is the pioneer of post-consumer waste recovery in Malta.
In 2010 GreenPak became a Cooperative Society Limited owned by the very companies using GreenPak’s compliance services.
Objective
GreenPak's objective is to take over the responsibilites of producers who participate in the scheme, including the attainment of recovery and recycling targets for the packaging waste resulting from the packaging material or packaging they place on the market.
